Where in the bible does it say that the governments will turn on the religions. Like the Dubs always say this will happen
by goingthruthemotions ini have not been here in a while, just trying to move on with my life all the while dealing with a very pimi brainwashed wife.. so the other day she started saying that we will have to go our own ways when things get worse with this world.
she has said this before because she believes that the government will turn on religion and the great and powerful wizards (guardians of doctrine g.o.d.
) will call everyone and tell them where to go.. thank god, (no pun intended) i have been out of the loop for such a long time.

Well it may not be scriptures that will dissuade her from following the GB.
I believed like all JW's that false religion falls first, then the "true" religion is left standing, only to be attacked. But god is supposed to step in and save most of his true followers. But if you read Daniel, in each prophecy, "true" religion is attacked first. Those parts tie in with the "two witnesses" in Rev 11:7. Those "two witnesses" are killed by "the beast that ascends out of the abyss" The WT says that happened in 1916-1919. But WT also says that the beast from the abyss is none other than the UN - which didn't come out of the abyss until around 1940's (?) This won't mean anything to her I'm sure. Sorry.

Where to go for the 'Deep Things'?
by cobweb inas someone who has been out a while, i wondered what publications a jw would turn to now if they want to do serious bible research.
are there any meaty jw publications left?
i haven't heard of the insight books being revised.

Thanks Cobweb for posting that selection of 1984. I've read Animal Farm but haven't been inclined to read 1984.
Having grown up in the WT, I've been dragged to assemblies all my life. They used to have hours of talks, discussing Revelation, the Trinity, what will happen in the future - all with countless scriptures to be looked up.
10 (?) years ago or so, they started doing 2 day assemblies that revolved around, God Loves you, Don't beat yourself up over Past Sins - not a lot of meat, but some kind of feel good stuff. I felt relieved in a way but not really. I noticed that the amount of scripture references had gone down.
Strangely tho, about that time or a little later, the WT we studied, become grandiose in vocabulary. There was a proliferation of words that many had to look up in the dictionary. (if they even had time to) This didn't go without notice and some complained about it, while others, incorporated them into their comments. Even going as far as to add several more into their answers so that 4 or 5 large words were the main construct of a sentence. One brother continued to do that in all the meetings, making people laugh after his comments and shake their heads. I thought at the time "Jesus would never talk like this to people"
Nowdays, people are "happified" or should I say "Stultified?"
I do think JW's are happy that there is less to read and think about. They've already heard the GB Stewardesses instructions on how to safely fly into the new order a few hundred thousand times. They are good to go so why worry about the small details.

Sounds like Nan was a best friend kind of Grandma. You don't always find that in families so it's a great treasure that you have in memories.

It could be just your mom's particular hall that is ramping it up. In the hall I grew up in, they were very attentive to any change or announcement from the Wt. Maybe 7 or so years ago, (I can't remember exactly what was said) the society made a change. The elders in the hall, from the podium, made comments that made it seem Arrmegeddon would happen in a month or two. One elder who had bought a house in a foreign country, said he doubted he would be able to live in it for more than 2 weeks before A happened. One elder shouted out from the audience "Come Lord Jesus, Come!" Bible studies at the hall, were freaking out. One young man was almost in tears because he wasn't baptized. Freaked me out to.
For weeks after, talks were given that had that "it's almost here, what are you doing in your life?" flavor. One brother (I could have killed him for doing this) pretended to read a letter from the WT saying that this was the last time they could probably talk to the congregation cause the tribulation was starting. Dead silence in the hall. Then he admitted that it wasn't real, but what if it was?
I thought this was what all the other halls did. My sister later told me, no, nothing with such urgency was discussed in her hall. She couldn't figure out what I was talking about.
So maybe your mom has an uber hall, or one where the elders like to nip at the heels of everyone to keep them coming to the hall.
It probably makes her feel like all those years mean something and she is in the know.

Do they even realise how disgustingly immoral this is and how badly it reflects on the God they worship?
by doubtfull1799 infound this little gem when going through the daily texts.... so let me get this straight.... god knows your suffering really badly and wants to help.
he knows you feel like you're at your limit, but he also knows that you are not really - that you can handle some more suffering.
so instead of helping, he "patiently" waits till you are at your absolute limit, and only then does he help!?.

That text reminds me of a Watchtower cover someone just posted recently. It had a starving African child on the front that was little more than skin and bones. The heading? Why is God patient - or something to that effect. In this case, the child's suffering isn't enough for God to act on I guess. Just a little more starving ......

"Slaving For Jehovah Is Great, Because Your Life Won't Go Wrong." Sigh...
by Sorry ingranted, i'm a pimo status, so i normally just play on my cell phone and ignore everything during meetings and assemblies.
but at the assembly this past weekend, my ears were pricked for two experiences of two sisters dedicating themselves to pioneering.
this was probably because i was extremely freaked out by both of them.

So if they are total slaves, who is paying for their rent and food? Not "The Master"

The broadcast by the WT concerning the 2 witness rule, was for reassurance - for the child molesters that is.
Imagine a jewelry store that stated if only one employee saw another employee steal jewelry and that person didn't confess, nothing was to be done. No police or anything. Since they didn't have video cameras, there wouldn't be any proof and nothing could be done.
Imagine advertising that fact to each new employee.
The WT is advertising the very same thing. Nothing will be done to child molesters unless they confess or someone happens to catch them at it. No worries for the molester unless they are incredibly stupid.
